#MentalHealth month week 1: Crisis Care

In the first week of #mentalhealth month, NHS England is focusing on crisis care and emergency support for people experiencing mental health issues.

It is vital that in times of mental health crisis, people are able to seek and access the support they need. The care and support someone receives when they are experiencing a mental health crisis should be equivalent to that given to someone presenting with a medical or surgical crisis.

This week, we’ll explore how a new Single Point of Access (SPA) service is proving effective in Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, and how London’s Trusts are working together to implement the Crisis Care Concordat and dramatically reduce the use of policy cells as places of safety for people experiencing a mental health crisis.

Watch here as our chair, Claire Murdoch, and representatives from our member Trusts discuss how London's crisis care needs to change to better meet the needs of people in crisis.
