"Veteran Aware" NHS trust

Our trust member, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH), has been accredited as a "Veteran Aware" NHS trust because of the support it offers to veterans and their families, both among service users and staff.

The Trust had to fulfil many requirements and meet a set of standards before being awarded this status. It means that our Trust has clear commitments:

  • We strive to be an exemplar of the best care for veterans and their families
  • We encourage all patients to let us know if they have ever served in the UK armed forces so that we can best support their care needs
  • Our staff are trained and educated about the needs of veterans, and their families
  • We are committed to learning from our patients and their families to improve quality of care.

Members of the Armed Forces often put themselves in danger to serve and sometimes that leads to huge sacrifices.  BEH is committed to ensuring those who have served, and their families, should not be disadvantaged compared to others in the provision of services or in the employment opportunities offered. We are also aware that there may be veterans among our staff, and they may have particular needs, so we are asking all staff whether they have served.
