Safety and Equality in Mental Health Inpatient Services programme

Safety and Equality in Mental Health Inpatient Services programme
  • The London SiMHS project sought to build on work already underway within Trusts and to add value through interventions that complement and through promoting inter-organisational learning and collaboration.
  • We have collaborated with the three London-based MH patient safety networks which are supporting QI projects in ward teams and the London PPN (psychological professions network)
  • Key focus was to address issues of violence and aggression in London’s acute mental health care services, to improve safety cultures and to strengthen staff skills, confidence and resilience
  • The project has successfully engaged a wide range of mental health staff and lived experience colleagues across London in collaborative learning and practice development.

Programme aims

  • To review current initiatives and approaches towards safety and equality within inpatient services, to share learning and to recommend quality improvement interventions
  • To standardise and improve best practice and make services safer and fairer for all who use these services and work in them.
  • To support service development through co-production, through training and development, and through quality improvement collaboratives
